Who We Are

Pen Books is an imprint of Pen Communication, a company founded in 1993 to raise money for non-profit organizations through direct response fundraising letters. Realizing that the more personal the “ask”, the better the response, Pen Communication revolutionized the industry by creating the most personalized letter imaginable – one that was handwritten. Among its clients, it counted some of the largest Public Broadcasting stations in the country.

In the early part of this century, Pen Communication dove into the digital world by founding SND Digital Coupons, a company using mobile technology to raise funds for school districts.

In 2014, Pen Communication opened its first imprint, Pen Books, to help indie authors publish their works in what has become a very competitive environment.

Pen Books specializes in works of fiction, specifically in the mystery/suspense/thriller genres. To date, it has published one Reg Decker thriller novel and two Tom McGuire novels by award-winning author, Dennis Koller

THE RHYTHM OF EVIL

Thirteen years after Poppy Garcia was murdered in San Francisco, a tweet accusing the San Francisco Police Department of systemic racism and homophobia goes viral. Homicide Inspector Reggie Decker, infuriated by the tweet and the public relations nightmare that follows, receives permission to re-open the case for one week, enough time to quash this conspiratorial nonsense once and for all. But it’s not that simple.

Decker’s initial review reveals the Murder Book is awash in false leads and outright lies; so many, that he begins to wonder if the Twitter gossip might be on to something. As new clues to Poppy’s life and tragic death emerge, Decker realizes he has stumbled upon a decades-old web of corruption and deceit leading down a twisted path of teenage sex trafficking, drug cartels and political intrigue at the highest levels.

The Oath, by Dennis Koller
THE OATH
**Silver Medal, Mystery, 2017 Military Writers Society of America**
**2016 BAIPA Book Award for Fiction**

“I solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic …”

A lifetime ago, a young naval aviator took that Oath. He was shot down over North Vietnam and suffered seven years as a POW in the infamous Hanoi Hilton. Tom McGuire, now a San Francisco PD homicide inspector, hadn’t thought about it in years. That was all about to change.

A lifetime ago, another young naval aviator took that Oath. He also was shot down over North Vietnam and joined McGuire as a cell-mate in the Hanoi Hilton. His interpretation of the Oath differed markedly from McGuire’s. Now, thirty years later, their lives are about to intersect once again, this time with explosive consequences.

The Custer Conspiracy
THE CUSTER CONSPIRACY
**Silver Medal, Mystery, 2020 Military Writers Society of America**
**Distinguished Favorite, 2017 Independent Press Award – Thriller **

Within a week of uncovering the explosive secret of what really happened at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, history professor Matt Conroy was lying in a morgue with the back of his head blown off.

San Francisco homicide inspector Tom McGuire, a long time friend of Conroy’s, volunteers to assist the FBI in bringing the killer to justice. Out of the blue, the FBI is ordered stand down, supposedly for national security reasons. McGuire isn’t about to stand down … for anyone, for any reason. That decision puts him squarely in the crosshairs of a one-hundred-forty-year-old cabal of international arms dealers who, using lessons they learned from the Little Bighorn battle, has been able to keep the world in a state of constant warfare.

McGuire and his CIA counterpart, Katelyn Murray, soon find themselves in a life-and-death battle with rich, powerful and ruthless men who will stop at nothing to keep the Custer secret buried.
